Preventative Violent Extremism and Counter-Terrorism
The CARICOM Counter-Terrorism Strategy (“the CT Strategy”) was adopted at the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in February 2018. The purpose of the CT Strategy is to reduce the risk of terrorism and associated violent extremism, as well as building resilience to extremist ideology, with a view to ensuring a safe and free CARICOM.
One of the five pillars of the CARICOM Counter Terrorism Strategy is Preventing Violent Extremism, which addresses the various social, economic, political and other factors, including exclusion and extremism, which engender conditions for the spread of violent extremism; and in which terrorist organisations are able to recruit and win support.
Implementing the CARICOM Counter Terrorism Strategy requires ongoing support, partnership and coordination with Member States, cooperating and supporting partners, non-governmental organisations, faith-based organisations, educational and research institutions.
CARICOM IMPACS in partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Countering Violent Extremism Unit will host a three-day course on Preventing Violent Extremism (PCVE), from 23 - 25 July 2019.
