This workshop was developed to sensitize participants of the important role law enforcement plays in gathering data relative to the use of biometrics (personal identification using fingerprints). They, being the first representative for personal data collection, will understand the importance of fingerprints to an individual’s identification, its importance to the wider society in both civil and criminal matters and its use by Investigators in the solving of crime. The recording of fingerprints by an Officer will involve patience, clarity and the use of proper techniques when dealing with “special” fingers. This will assist the fingerprint expert to clearly analyse a finger impression and enter it into the national database.
