This course provides a comprehensive introduction to virtual assets, focusing on their role in modern financial systems and the associated cybersecurity cybercrime challenges. With the rise of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies, law enforcement, regulators, and cybersecurity/cybercrime professionals must understand how these assets function and how they are exploited in illicit activities. The training emphasises practical skills in digital forensics, Dark Web Navigation and OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence) to equip participants with investigative techniques for tracing transactions, gathering intelligence, and mitigating risks.

The workshop emphasizes digital forensic procedures, digital forensic tools, and legal issues relating to digital forensics. Topics include understanding what devices can hold digital evidence, the definition of digital evidence, where it can be found, the importance and how digital evidence relates to different crime types, the importance of getting digital devices to a forensics expert, what steps should be taken to ensure that digital evidence is properly identified and recovered. This workshop also addresses the issue of when a Search and Seizure of Electronic/Digital Evidence for First Responders & Investigators search warrant is required to seize and/or search digital devices.
